Errors and goofs
If you really enjoy this movie, and watch it regularly, it is probably best you don't read this page. The problem with knowing what the errors are, is that you can't help but notice them next time you watch the film. For this reason, we have placed the "incorrectly stated as errors" section first on this page.
Having said that though, there are some rather interesting errors as a result of script alterations, the directing, and editing. If you feel that knowing these errors won't ruin your future viewing experience, you will no doubt find them interesting. Where possible, we have also provided a reason for the error.

Continuity
When Keith gets into the jeep to get a ride home he has no books, but when he jumps out at his house he is holding books.
This error is incorrect, as the screen-shot shows.

When Amanda is getting ready for the date with Keith, she puts on gold hoop earrings but when he picks her up, they have turned into diamond studs.

While sitting in the back seat of the Jaguar, Keith magically moves from the left side of the car to the right and back again.
This error is incorrect. What the Director has chosen to show the viewer here, is Keith, from Watts' point of view (ie in the Jaguar's rear view mirror). It can clearly be seen that this is a mirror image by the part in Keith's hair.
This also occurs with Amanda, but because she is sitting in a more central location in the back of Jaguar, it is not as noticable.

Hardy loses the pencil behind his ear in the Library scene.
According to the original script, Hardy breaks this pencil so as to intimidate Keith. Presumably, this section of the scene was cut during final editing. |

During the garage scene, the rubbish bin Keith tosses Hardy's dipstick into, changes both size and colour.
Also noticable in the last screen shot is the abscence of the hose and nozel on the pump closest to camera, which is clearly visible in the first screen shot.

When getting a ride home with Shayne and Amanda, initially the right side of Keith's shirt is very crooked. In the next scene his shirt is straight.
Whilst this can be considered an error, the original script does mention that the road scene appears later. So it is quite conceivable that Keith adjusted his shirt during this time frame. |

Laura loses her dark green jacket as she gets down from the wall during the Mall scene. |

When running down the school steps, Amanda is initially holding her books with her left hand.
In the very next scene she is then holding them with her right hand.

During Amanda's emotional scene, Hardy flips a coin in the air and puts his hand out at waist level to catch it. In the very next cut (from the reverse angle) he is catching the coin high above his head. |

In the front on shot of Watts in the seating of the Hollywood Bowl, she has her arms folded. In the reverse angle stage shot, she does not.

During the party scene, Hardy's friend restraining Keith by his right arm, changes actors.
A rather interesting error, as the first actor is never sighted in the scene again (he is however, seen in earlier scenes, such as the one at the Mall). This error is a result of the late script change this scene had, in which a section of the party scene was re-shot.

Upon arrival at Hardy's House, there are a number of cars parked in the driveway. When Amanda and Keith later exit the house and walk down the driveway, these cars are gone, even though at this point, no guests have left.
This error is related to the script change mentioned in the above error. In the original version of the party scene, all the guests leave long before Amanda and Keith do. |

Continuity
There are some continuity issues with the camera angles, and as a result, the lighting on the street, in the final scene.
Initially, when Keith is running after Watts, the street lighting is on his right.
This is reinforced when Watts turns to see Keith running after her. The street lighting being on her left, which is consistent.
The inconsistency occurs, when Keith (who enters left of camera) then approaches Watts (who has stopped at this point). The street lighting is now on his left, and on her right. The camera angle has swung around 180 degrees, but the actors remain in the same on-screen position.
Finally, when they both walk down the street together, the lighting is on the left side of the street which would be consistent with them both walking back to the Jaguar. Unfortunately, as the camera remains on the same angle as mentioned in the fourth paragraph (third picture), they appear to walk in the direction Watts was initially heading.
This inconsistency has led some to allege that Keith and Watts actually continue to walk in the direction of their homes, and leave the Jaguar parked outside Hardy's house.
In fact, this is exactly what does occur. The filming of the final kiss and associated walk is a few hundred feet north of Hardy's house on the same street (Hudson Avenue). Keith and Watts are actually walking north on Hudson Avenue, away from Hardy's house. Thanks to Dave Cox for this information.
